What's Included — and What Isn't
Small Group, or Private
Silver Silk Road runs as an intimate small group of up to 4 guests, so everyone gets warm, personal attention and plenty of speaking time.
Travelling on dates when no one else has booked?
No problem. If not enough guests join your chosen dates, the program simply runs with as few as one person — a fully private experience at the same $170/day rate, with no extra charge. You're never turned away for being early, and you never pay more for a smaller group.
Booking & Arrival
3-Day Minimum
Stay as little as three days or as long as you like. We shape the itinerary around your dates, energy, and interests.
Airport Pickup Included
Send your flight details at least 7 days before arrival so we can arrange your pickup. Booking closer to your trip? Just contact us and we'll help you get to your hotel.
No Age Limit · Tourist-Visa Friendly
There's no upper age limit. Short stays usually need only a regular tourist visa — no student-visa paperwork — and we'll provide an invitation letter if your application needs one. For longer stays, we'll advise on the right visa.
Travelling as a Couple?
Partners and friends are welcome to join. Tell us your group when you inquire and we'll tailor rooms and activities to suit.
Health, Safety & Altitude
Designed for comfort and peace of mind
Gentle by design. Walking distances, rest breaks, and activity intensity are tailored to each guest. Tell us about any mobility, dietary, or medical needs and we'll plan around them.
About Kunming's altitude. Kunming sits at roughly 1,900m (6,200ft). Most visitors adjust easily, but if you have heart or breathing conditions, please let us know in advance and check with your doctor before travelling.
Support on the ground. Your teacher is with you throughout the day, and our team can direct you to English-speaking medical care if you ever need it.
Questions before you plan your trip? We reply within 24 hours.

How much does the program cost?
$170 USD per day, all-inclusive — 4-star+ hotel, daily breakfast and a traditional lunch, all language classes, daily guided culture and excursions, a teacher with you all day, airport pickup, and accident insurance. There's a 3-day minimum stay. International airfares and personal spending are extra; dinners aren't included but can be arranged on request for an extra cost.
Is this a group program or a private one?
It's a small group of up to 4 people. If not enough travelers join your dates, it simply runs with as few as one person — a private experience at the same $170/day rate, no extra charge.
What's the minimum stay?
Three days. Beyond that it's fully customizable — most guests stay one to several weeks, and we adjust pacing and activities to your comfort and interests.
Do I need a student visa?
For short stays, no — most guests visit on a regular tourist visa with no student-visa paperwork. If your tourist-visa application needs one, we'll provide an invitation letter. For longer stays, KCEL can advise on the right visa. There's no upper age limit.
Is it suitable for older travelers, and what about the altitude?
Yes — it's built specifically for older adults, at a gentle pace. Kunming sits at about 1,900m (6,200ft); most visitors adjust easily, but if you have heart or breathing concerns, please tell us in advance and check with your doctor. We tailor walking, rest, diet, and activity intensity to each guest.
What does the included insurance cover?
The price includes a Chinese accident-insurance policy (accidental injury and related medical care). It is not comprehensive illness or medical coverage, so we strongly recommend you also carry your own travel-medical insurance from home for your stay.
Is airport pickup included?
Yes. Please send your flight details at least 7 days before arrival so we can arrange it. If you book closer to your trip, just contact us and we'll help you from there.
Are the wellness activities medical treatment?
No. Tai Chi, tea ceremony, herbal teas, and Traditional Chinese Medicine introductions are offered as cultural experiences, not medical care or treatment. Please consult your own physician for any health condition.
