One of the most common questions we hear from incoming students is simple but important: Where should I stay?
This guide lists accommodation options near KCEL (218 Dongfeng West Road, Wuhua District, Kunming), ranging from budget-friendly apartments and hostels to higher-end hotels — plus KCEL’s own on-campus housing. All external listings are independently operated and not affiliated with KCEL.

How to Use This Guide
All distances below are measured from KCEL. Prices are in Chinese Yuan (CNY); for reference, ¥100 ≈ $14 USD (exchange rates fluctuate daily). Prices may vary during July–August and holidays — always confirm directly with the property or our admissions team before booking.
On-Campus Accommodation
KCEL offers a limited number of student apartments in and near the school building. Availability is limited — contact us early to confirm availability for your dates.
Studio Apartment — ¥3,000/month
A private studio with bathroom, small kitchen, washing machine, and cooking facilities. Perfect for independent students who value their own space. WiFi costs extra.
Two-Bedroom Apartment — ¥3,200/month
A spacious two-bedroom unit ideal for families or students traveling with companions. Includes a full kitchen and living area. WiFi costs extra.
Off-Campus Studio Apartment — ¥3,200/month
A modern studio about 10 minutes’ walk from school, with high-quality furnishings and interior design for enhanced comfort compared to standard on-campus units. Includes a small kitchen. WiFi costs extra.

1. Zhongwei Green Lake Hotel (昆明中维翠湖宾馆) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Address: No. 6 Cuihu South Road, Wuhua District (翠湖南路6号)
Distance: ~1,200m (15-minute walk along Cuihu South Road)
Getting there: Walk 15 minutes, or take bus 100, 101, or 133 to “翠湖” (Cuihu) station (~5 minutes).
Prices:
- Standard Room: ¥350–450/night (~$49–63 USD)
- Deluxe Room: ¥500–650/night (~$70–91 USD)
- Suite: ¥800–1,200/night (~$112–168 USD)

Distance: ~500m (10-minute walk)

3. Yunnan University Hotel (云大宾馆)
Address: Yunnan University East Campus area (云南大学东路校区)
Distance: ~2,000m (20-minute walk)
Getting there: Walk 20 minutes, or take bus 84 directly to the cross street of the school.
Prices:
- Double Room (2 beds, 15 m²): ¥150/night (~$21 USD)
- Suite (3 beds, 38 m²): ¥200/night (~$28 USD) — includes a small kitchen, recommended for families
Notes: Near the city center and Cuihu Park, close to Yunnan University and Yunnan Normal University, with easy access to school on foot or by public transport. No self-service laundry, and facilities are a bit older.

Distance: ~2,000m (walkable through the Yunnan University area and Green Lake)

Getting there: Take bus 61 to Meichen Department Store (one block from school).
Prices: Monthly rental only: ¥5,800–7,500/month (~$810–1,050 USD), varying by unit type and availability.
Facilities: Washing machine, refrigerator, oven, gym, twice-monthly cleaning service included.
Policies: Minimum 2-week stay required; must book 2 weeks in advance. Specific unit availability — contact the admissions team for current options.
How to Choose: A Quick Guide
Staying 1 week or less? → A hotel is easiest — you get proximity and daily front-desk service.
Staying 2–4 weeks? → A hotel or a hostel private room offers a good balance of comfort and flexibility.
Staying 1+ months? → An on-campus apartment or a homestay/apartment is much cheaper per month, and you get a kitchen and independence.
What’s your priority?
- Closest to school → Kunming Cuiyi Hotel (~500m)
- Premium / 5-star → Zhongwei Green Lake Hotel
- On a budget → Yunnan University Hotel, DADA Apartment, or a Wild i City dorm bed
- Best for families → Yunnan University Hotel suite, Spring City Star family suite, or the on-campus two-bedroom
