HSK (level 1) tests candidates’ ability to use Chinese in daily life, which corresponds to level A1 of the International Standard of Chinese Proficiency level 1 and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF). Candidates who have passed HSK (level 1) can understand and use some very simple Chinese words and sentences, meet specific communication needs, and have the ability to further learn Chinese.
1. Test subjects
HSK (level 1) is mainly for students who study Chinese for one semester (half an academic year) according to the schedule of 2-3 class hours per week and master 150 most commonly used words and relevant grammar knowledge.
2. Examination contents
HSK (level 1) consists of two parts: listening and reading.
Test time (minutes)
All exams will take about 40 minutes (including 5 minutes for examinee to fill in their personal information).
(1) Listening
Part one, five questions. Listen to each question twice. Each question will be a phrase. A picture will be provided on the test paper. Examinee should judge right or wrong based on what they hear.
Part two, five questions. Listen to each question twice. Each question will be a sentence. Three pictures will be provided on the test paper. Examinee should select the corresponding pictures based on what they hear.
Part three, five questions. Listen to each question twice. Each question will be a dialogue. Several pictures will be provided on the test paper. Examinee should select the corresponding pictures based on what they hear.
Part four, five questions. Listen to each question twice. Each question will be a sentence said by one person, the second person will ask a question according to this sentence and provide three options, each question on the test paper will have three options, the examinee should choose the answer according to the content.
(2) Reading
Part one, five questions. Each question will provide a picture and a word. Examinee need to judge whether they are consistent.
Part two, five questions. There will be several pictures on the test paper. Each question will provide a sentence. The examinee should select the corresponding picture according to the sentence content.
Part three, five questions. There will be five questions and five answers. Examinee need to find out the correspondence.
Part four, five questions. Each question will provide a sentence with a blank. Examinee should choose from the options provided and fill in the blanks.
The questions on the exam paper will have pinyin.
3. Performance report
The HSK (level 1) report will provide three parts of grades: listening, reading and total. The total score above 120 will be qualified.
